Sian Ka’an “The place where the sky begins” México is the third most important site in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves program in the world network and the leader in Latin America and the Caribbean. Welcome to our excursion: “Sian Ka’an Natura” and experience an encounter with nature, Mayan culture and an exciting adventure in the jungle.
Visit to the Muyil archaeological site This guided tour will allow you to discover one of the largest archaeological sites in the Sian Ka’an Reserve. Muyil was an important commercial center for the exchange of products from Honduras and the Yucatan peninsula. On the Canan-Ha trail, visitors will experience the diversity of tropical forest flora and fauna. At the end of the path, we will arrive at a 19-meter-high viewpoint from which we will be able to observe the different ecosystems of the reserve: the tropical forest, the lagoons, the savannah, and the “petenes” (ecological microsystems of the region: flat terrains in form of islands near the sea).
We will take a walk through the crystal clear turquoise waters of the lagoons until we reach the ruin of Xtlapak, where we will float in an ancient canal built by the Mayans more than a thousand years ago. We will let ourselves be carried away by the gentle current for about 35 minutes enjoying the tranquility and the sound of the wind.
